CMT Field Notes: Chinaplas 2015

Posted by CMTUpdate on 2:51 PM on June 1, 2015

Once again the city of Guangzhou in Southern China welcomed the world of plastics professionals to its massive exhibition hall. Though the organizers of the K Fair (Messe Dusseldorf) insist they are not nervous, it appears that Chinaplas is now larger than K, at least in terms of quantity (if not quality) of exhibitors.

CMT Field Notes: Feiplastic Brazil

Posted by CMTUpdate on 10:18 AM on May 26, 2015

It's a bit of a haul to Sao Paulo from Boston, but with only one hour time difference, a decent sleep on the plane means that you can arrive without too much jet lag. The Feiplastic tradeshow is billed as the largest trade show in Latin America with approximately 70,000 visitors which would make it similar in size to NPE (there were 65,810 attendees in Orlando this year).

Field Notes: 9th Annual Thin Wall Packaging Conference Europe

Posted by CMTUpdate on 4:19 PM on December 9, 2014

The City of Cologne in Germany is renowned for its famed “Dom”, the imposing cathedral with twin spires that managed to survive Allied bombing during World War II. During the month of December, the city is also known across Europe for its “Weihnachtsmarkt” or Night Christmas Markets. With locals and tourists milling around temporary outdoor structures containing everything from wintry clothes to local cuisine to hot mulled wine (“Gluhwein”), the spirit of the season arrives at the beginning of December. It is also the time of year when around 200 packaging professionals gather at the Maritim Hotel for the annual Thin Wall Packaging Conference.

A View of Thermoforming from Latin America

Posted by CMTUpdate on 3:30 PM on November 24, 2014

Last week CMT participated in the 2014 Plastimagen exhibition and conference at the Centro Banamex in Mexico City. Due to widespread protests in the capital, attendance at the event was mixed in the sense that there were several pronounced lulls in activity. Organizers and exhibitors felt that the demonstrations led to traffic problems which caused disruptions to schedules. That said, the buzz for thermoforming at the show was generally positive and many attendees arrived late in the evening (the show hours were 1pm - 8pm). Through conversations in different booths and in the hallways, there was a sense that Latin American demand has been pent-up during 2014. Many processors talked about new projects for 2015 that should unlock the potential for more machinery, tooling and equipment.
